Better Late than Never

Grade 7 made some beautiful prints to sell to raise money for the disaster relief fun in Japan.. Unfortuntly it took us a lot longer than we expected to plan and print these beautiful things, but on Friday 17th of June the students raised $120USD to put toward this cause.

Most of the immediate disaster relief campains are closed, however I have donated the money to Childrens Relief Fund (Save the Children). You can see details here.  (Prints featured here-Althings going to be alright by Mai, SMILE AGAIN by Jennifer)

IG1 Whole Day Figure Drawing Workshop

IG1 were so lucky to have Ms. Caitlin model for them for a whole day! We have been studying figure drawing for about 6 weeks, and today the students had a canvas and had to emulate an artists style in their drawing. The photographs document the whole day, and although the artworks arn’t completely finished, i’m sure you’ll agree they are awesome.

IB1- Consuming Creatures

Momoko and Aiko have been exploring the theme of Consuming Creatures, looking at assemblage. They went to the market and could only spend 300,000vnd on materials to make an artwork.

Momoko’s creepy bloody plastic balls combine the innocence of childish play things, and sinister bloodlike latex…

Aiko’s artwork give a sense of nostalgia, children’s clothes and wire sculpture to symbolise the passing of time and childhood.

Ceramic bust based on an idiom…..

After a long process, Grade 8 are nearly finished their ceramic busts. We are using a cold finish, layering white gesso and coloured pencil over black spray paint. Students are focusing on using warm and cool colours to exaggerate the form and surface texture. Not all students were successful in sculpting their idiom…. but all were successful in sculpting a human head which as they have found out is VERY difficult!

Grade 8 some possible things you could comment on…..

  • Warm and cool colours
  • Surface Texture
  • Form
  • Layering
  • Facial Expression

Sometimes tests are the best…

So with Grade 8 at the moment we are looking at using printmaking and typography to make art for a cause. Yesterday we made collographs using typographic principals, and layered them on top of each other. Really it was just intended to introduce the students to relief printing conventions (How to roll out printing ink so it is even, how to label prints, how to use “paper fingers”, and set up the printmaking space) but the final prints were stunning. Check them out…
