It’s hot hot hot in the art room at the moment! One of our aircons has had it’s last stand, and when we are on the 6th floor you can imagine it gets quite toasty. So what do we do in art, but use if for inspiration! So IG1 are drawing the figure, and this week we are looking at tone. We did an exercise today where students had to outline areas of tone on the figure. And so now we have melty figures.
IG1 Still Life
IG1 have been working really hard over the past month, learning about layering and colour to create these beautiful still life paintings. We were inspired by Henri Matisse, Brett Whitley and Morandi.

ARTS WEEK WORKSHOP- Typography and Hierarchy
Ms Caitlin who is a practising Graphic Designer came to teach Grade 7 about Typography and Hierarchy. Students will use this knowledge in their upcoming unit on Printmaking for a Cause.

ARTS WEEK WORKSHOP- Dena draws inspiration from Sapa Fabrics
Grade 5 were so lucky to have Ms. Dena come and teach a workshop during Arts Week. She used Sapa Fabric as inspiration, and had the students design their own panels and create their own “quilt”. Here is Grade 5 working hard!

Bruce Sherratt Visits HIS
On Wednesday the 23rd of March Bruce Sherratt visited HIS to introduce the Art Center the he runs in Ubud, Bali. (http://www.baliartcourses.com) We looked at images of Balinese culture, including festivals, temples and ceremonies, and looked at what what he offers at his art centre. We were also very lucky to have Bruce run a practical art workshop with the IB1 students, based on mythical creatures. Students used line, pattern, negative space, and their already fantastic calligraphic skills to develop their own mythical creatures. Here are some images of the students work.

Bookmaking by Grade 6
Grade 6 used their awesome lino prints based on the story, “The Aliens” by Roger Mallison to learn how to create books.
Students hand made the paper for the covers and could choose to make concertina books or try Japanese binding.
